    The latest forecasts for the coming winter all seem to indicate colder than average temperatures for extended periods, with stronger than average chances of heavy snow. Which as far as I can tell is weather forecaster speak for “It’s going to be pretty nippy, so wrap up warm!” Whether the current forecast actually means months of relentless extreme cold with heavy snow, or something less arctic is, of course, yet to become clear, but it’s always good to be prepared for the worst, as my gran used to say. Mind you, she was the kind of person who would carry sun cream, an umbrella, gloves and mosquito repellent in her handbag just in case!
