Press Release: June 2017

When Sam Bowen’s daughter was diagnosed at 6 weeks old with hip dysplasia, a condition that affects one in 300 children, she started to design clothing to fit over the various treatment aids, but had no idea it would develop into a multi-award-winning business. Encouraged by the NHS staff treating her daughter, who loved the clothing, she designed more styles creating a product range and in 2011, Hip-Pose was established as the first online company specialising in hip dysplasia clothing for babies and toddlers.

Hip-Pose grew rapidly as the news of the unique clothing spread and within only a few years the brand had gained a global following with heart-warming customer feedback and positive reviews thanking Hip-Pose for making their lives a bit easier and more manageable during a difficult time, while looking after a baby with hip dysplasia.

Hip-Pose worked closely with hip dysplasia support groups on Facebook and contributed a section on clothing in the book ‘Cast Life: A Parent’s Guide to Hip Dysplasia’, by Natalie Trice. Hip-Pose won the ‘Innovation Design Award’ three years running from Prima Baby, beating all high street brands in 2015, and then in 2016 achieved the top Gold prize at the prestigious National Mum and Working Award for ‘Most Inspirational Business Parent’.

A range expansion in 2016 lead to a collaboration with Karina Grassy, owner of Slumbersac, who co-developed the first Hip-Pose sleeping bag that proved to be an instant success with customers, who soon were requesting bigger sizes to fit older children with hip dysplasia. The Hip-Pose/Slumbersac sleeping bag was crowned Finalist 2017 at the Made for Mums Award (formerly Prima Baby Awards).

Hip-Pose’s company ethos is to help as many families worldwide, that have children with hip dysplasia and this goal has recently become achievable with the announcement that Hip-Pose has merged with Slumbersac, a global brand of baby and children sleeping bags and sleep related products which was founded 16 years ago. “This was a natural progression for Slumbersac as development of an adaptive garment range for babies and children was already in the business plan" says Slumbersac owner, Karina Grassy.

With all the Slumbersac expertise at hand, the amazing success attained by Hip-Pose over the past six years will be sustained to grow into further markets, where families can benefit from this wonderful product range. Sam will continue her work on new innovative designs together with overseeing product development and remains the Slumbersac spokesperson for Hip Dysplasia, as well as the voice on all Hip-Pose social media platforms.
