Teething is one of the first hurdles of parenting you’ll have to hop over, so our blog gives parents some simple tips to help relieve your teething baby.

Is my baby teething? Here are some signs that you should look out for:

  • Swollen gums
  • Red cheeks (or the entire face)
  • Salivation
  • Loss of appetite
  • Moodiness
  • Disturbed sleep
  • Intensive biting

Sometimes other symptoms are associated with teething, although some experts claim that there is no cause and effect. Warning, these signs may indicate underlying disease, do not take it lightly:

  • Fever
  • Loose stools or diarrhoea
  • Nasal discharge
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Earache

If your child has some of the above signs and their condition concerns you, please consult your doctor. They will be able to establish an accurate diagnosis.

The first teeth often appear when your baby is between 4-7 months, sometimes a little before. Pain associated with teething can last a few days or several weeks, depending on children. Fortunately, the first teeth are often the most painful.

Soothe teething:

Like most parents, seeing your child in pain is heart breaking. So, you ask yourself how do I relieve a teething baby?

- Chilled teething ring

This is the classic solution. Place in the freezer or refrigerator, a baby teething ring will relieve pain by allowing him to bite blithely. When it contacts with their gums, the cold will numb the pain for a few moments.

- Dummy

In the same vein, the dummy helps soothe the pain by allowing baby to chew constantly. Plastic toys and stuffed animals will also do nicely. Sophie the giraffe example helped relieve thousands of babies.

- Ice Lolly

With its anaesthetic effect on the gum, the cold brings a real relief for baby. You can offer her frozen breast milk sticks or fruit puree if you started diversifying to help relieve pain.

- Bread, crackers & frozen fruit

Under close surveillance and depending on the age of your child, you can also offer them a piece of bread, a biscuit or even frozen fruits and vegetables to relieve their pain.

- Massage the gums

After thoroughly washing your finger, wipe it gently against the baby's sore gums. This targeted massage, based small pressures, will help soothe. You can also use a finger toothbrush.

- Fresh water

The cold helps to soothe toothache. So you can try to offer a glass of water a little cooler than usual for your child. Warning: do not give them ice water!

- Relaxation

To help baby forget his pain for a few minutes, you can be creative. Offer them a massage or a bath for example. This relaxation time allows them to relax.

- Boost of the headboard

Hard to say if this tip is really effective, but it costs nothing. Raise slightly the crib head with a cloth placed under the mattress, would alleviate night time pain felt by baby. Nothing wrong with trying everything!
