Valentine's Day with children - ideas for a love-ly family day

What can you do to make Valentine's Day extra fun and special for your family?

Start the day with a joint photo session.

Why not all dress up and have some lovely family photos taken - not only do they look good in your photo album, but the time together is a lasting memory of the day. Be sure to also take some fun photos too, because nothing is more important than being able to laugh together. The most beautiful photos will then have a special place in your home.

Bake heart cookies.

You can decorate these together and give them away to other family members. Snuggle up with your homemade treats and tell the children about your love story. Take out the photo album, leaf through it together and remember good experiences. If your children are a bit older, they could also draw a picture or write something about your family history on Valentine's Day, so that you can add a new chapter to your album every year. The children will recognize their drawings and their writing immediately and look forward to your cosy ritual.

Organise a treasure hunt through your home.

All you have to do is write down, roll up and hide a few lovely messages in advance. You could even write down small tasks for your children, such as "Give Mum a Kiss" or "Draw a Red Heart" or "Hug Dad Tightly". As soon as all the pieces of paper have been found and the tasks have been completed, your children could receive a small prize such as their favourite sweets or treats.

If you would like to spend the evening as a couple, you could get a babysitter or ask the grandparents to come over and put the grandchildren to bed while you go out to eat at your favourite restaurant or watch a nice movie. Alternatively, you could also eat together with the children and then take some time for the two of you. You can cook your favourite meal together and light a few candles for a cosy atmosphere. If you would rather have a few hours to yourself in the afternoon, you could arrange with other parents to look after each other's children for a few hours each - the children will first be with them for a few hours and then with you. Both couples benefit from this arrangement and can spend Valentine's Day together for a few hours.

No matter how you spend your Valentine's Day, take it easy and relax. It doesn't take a lot of planning to spend a nice day with the family and still find some time for you as a couple.
