Choosing the right sleeping bag for your baby in Summer

Even in Summer, when it's really warm at night, your baby still needs a suitable baby sleeping bag. Keeping your little one cool and comfortable while they sleep is essential to reducing the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). A baby sleeping bag also ensures that your baby sleeps in a safe position on their back and is less likely to turn and lie on their front which is considered more risky.

What to consider when choosing a Summer Baby Sleeping Bag

• 0.5 Tog: made of two-layer fabric, completely unlined and suitable for hot Summer nights and room temperatures above 24 degrees
• 1.0 Tog: lightly lined without sleeves and suitable for room temperatures of 18-24 degrees

How to choose the right size Summer sleeping bag

Slumbersac Summer sleeping bags are available in six different sizes, from newborn up to 10 years old. When choosing the right size sleeping bag, your little one should be able to kick and wriggle freely in the sleeping bag, giving enough room for freedom to move and kick when sleeping. Ideally, your child's feet should be positioned at 3/4 of the sleeping bag, leaving the bottom quarter of the sleeping bag 'empty'. Toddlers often find that they don't like their feet to be restricted and you may find a sleeping bag with feet to be a better solution for them.

It is particularly important to pay attention to the size of the neckline so that your baby cannot slip into the sleeping bag, as would be the case if the neckline were too large, and so that there is no danger of strangulation due to a neckline that is too narrow. There is also a rule of thumb for this - the neckline should be about big enough to fit a finger between the neck and the neckline.

The armholes should also fit the size of the sleeping bag - armholes that are too big cause more heat loss and there is a risk that your baby can slip into the sleeping bag while sleeping.
